Duke Parking and Transportation Services and Duke Student Government have teamed up to sponsor the First Annual Food for Fines Campaign December 3-7. Canned items will be donated to a local foodbank to spread holiday cheer to those in need.

Parking and Transportation Services will reduce the fine by $2 per can, up to a maximum of $30, for one parking citation issued to students between November 7 and December 6, 2018 when they donate canned items to be provided to the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina.

Fire Lane/Emergency Access, Handicap Parking Area/Access or Fraudulent Permit violations, citations under appeal, and citations that have already been billed to student accounts are not eligible for fine reduction.

When you bring your canned items to our office between 9 am to 5 pm at 302 Science Drive, (Science Drive Garage) from December 3-7, a staff member will accept your donation, issue you a receipt and reduce your eligible fine. The maximum fine reduction per customer will be $30 (15 cans of nonperishable nourishment). Please donate items that you personally would eat or serve your family, and ensure the expiration date is after June 2019, as some cans may not be distributed immediately.

We will gladly accept canned donations even if you don’t have citations. And if you’d like to make a contribution to the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina, visit their site at http://www.foodbankcenc.org.
