Law Student Parking Information

NOTICE:  August 15, 2012.  ON-LINE PERMIT SALES are available for graduate students and undergraduates, as well as employees who are renewing their 2012 permits.  Avoid long lines and purchase your permit at "Manage My Parking Account".  When you log in, you will be shown the permits you are eligible to purchase.

Law School students are guaranteed parking permits based upon their class assignment or, for second-year students, a random lottery.  You must have your NetID and password in order to gain access to the site.  NetIDs are mailed to students upon matriculation.  Be sure to activate your NetID on-line as soon as you receive it.

Information for third year and LLM students
You may initially purchase your permit on-line between June 14 10:00 a.m. (EST) and July 12 5:00 p.m. (EST).  If you are selecting a Green permit, sales will continue throughout the year.  To purchase your permit, log in using your NetID and then select "Purchase Permit" at this page: Manage My Parking Account

**Information for second year students
Second-year students may enter their names on waitlists for Chemistry and Whitford parking lots beginning July 2 at 10:00 a.m. (EST).  The on-line waitlist for permit upgrades to the Chemistry and Whitford zones ends at 11:59 p.m. (EST) Thursday, July 12, 2012

Waitlist upgrade selections will be randomly made and waitlist notification letters will be emailed to recipients of permit upgrades on Monday morning, July 16.  PTS will notify all second-year students after the affirmative waitlist notifications have been made, at which time you may purchase your permit at Manage My Parking Account.  If your waitlist attempt is not successful, you may purchase a Green permit.

Information for first year students
First-year students are only eligible for Green permits.  You may purchase your permit on-line at Manage My Parking Account beginning June 14 at 10:00 a.m. (EST).

Waitlists
The parking arrangement with the Law School prohibits enrolling on other parking lot waitlists with the exception of second year students.

Permit Payment
Parking fees are billed to student Bursar accounts.  No other method of payment is accepted.

Vehicle Registration
Students who do not have a vehicle when they purchase a permit may enter their Duke Unique ID number in the license information section of the permit order form. When a vehicle and permanent license plate are obtained, students must update vehicle records within 10 business days.

How to Obtain Your Parking Permit
Parking permits purchased online will be mailed to addresses within the continental United States within seven to ten business days.  If you do not have a local address that will be valid shortly after you order your permit, please enter "Duke PTS, Box 90644, Durham, NC  27708-0644" as your mailing address.  You may pick up your permit at 2010 Campus Drive after you return to campus for the Fall semester.

When to Display Parking Permit
Permits should be displayed on August 16.  Parking zone enforcement will begin on September 1.

Evening and Weekend Access to Parking Lots
Your DukeCard provides access to many parking lots after 5:00 p.m. weekdays and on weekends all year long, excluding times when lots are reserved for events.  When attending a special event on campus, your permit allows free parking in lots designated for the general public.

Carpools & Rideshares
Please consider carpools, rideshares, GoPass and other cost-saving and environmentally friendly alternatives to single occupancy vehicles. Our Alternative Transportation page offers more information.

Accessible Parking
Students with permanent physical disabilities must request consideration for handicapped parking each year by filling out an application form and forwarding copies to the Disability Management System.
