After-Hours Parking (Night Permits)

Duke's parking system controls access to facilities; a valid permit is required to enter and exit. If you own a Duke permit, it automatically conveys access on nights and weekends to particular facilities. If you do not own a Duke permit, you may request an after-hours ("night") permit.

Eligibility and fees

Students, staff and faculty who do not own an annual permit and need to park in gated facilities on evenings and weekends are eligible for an after-hours permit. At this time there is no charge for the permit. In the future, a fee may apply.

Valid locations and hours

The after-hours permit is valid in all gated facilities except Fuqua, IM, Law, Nursing School, Public Policy, Research Dr. Garage reserved section, and Science. The permit does not convey free parking for any Duke event. There also may be occasions when parking lots are not available to after-hours permit holders due to special events. Signs will be posted at these lots in advance.

The permit is valid from 5 p.m. to 6:59 a.m. Monday through Friday and all day Saturday and Sunday.

Obtaining and using the permit

To obtain an after-hours permit, log in to your parking account with your Duke NetID and password. Follow the on-screen instructions and select “Afterhours 20XX Permit/NGT 201X.” Have your vehicle make, year, and license plate number available. After placing your order, you will receive an email from Parking and Transportation Services containing a link to your permit, which you can print.

To use the permit, scan the barcode at the in-lane reader. If you need help, press the intercom (“i"). Display the permit on your dashboard.
