Employee FAQs

I don't have a permit for Parking Garage 2. Can I still park there?
To park in any facility, you need to have a valid permit for that facility. Anyone with a valid Duke permit may park in most facilities (including PG2) between 5pm and 6:59am weekdays and all day on weekends.

The permit types below are valid in PG1, PG2, PG3 and Research Dr. Garage between 2:30pm – 9:00am weekdays and all day on weekends. If you park between 9:00am and 2:30pm, you must park in your designated lot and use Duke Transit or Van Services (scroll down and see Medical Center Evening Van Ride Procedures).

These permits are not permitted to be in a garage between 9:00am and 2:30pm on weekdays:

  • HEW - For staff working night and/or weekend shifts
  • H, R1 and R2 For staff who primarily work days but may have an occasional need to park in PGII afterhours

Note: H permits are no longer available for purchase.

A free night permit (NGT) is available for staff who do not own a permit and need to park after 5pm and leave prior to 6:59am weekdays or weekends.

To obtain a permit, visit Duke FlexPort or a Parking office.

I have a PG3 (PGC) permit. Can I park in PG2?
PG3 permit holders may park in PG2 only between 2:30pm and 9am on weekdays, and any time on Saturday and Sunday.

I work part-time and need a permit but am not eligible for payroll deduction.  What should I do?
You can purchase an available permit online and pay for it with a credit card. Visit Duke FlexPort.

I have a permit for a parking facility, but when I visit Duke for a doctor's appointment, I'd rather park closer and pay the fee. Is that ok?
Yes, however, we encourage employees to park in their permitted facility even when visiting for an appointment. If you park at Parking Garage 1 (Trent Drive, serving Duke Clinic, Cancer Center and Duke Medical Pavilion) without a valid permit, you should remove your permit from your vehicle before arriving at the facility. Otherwise, the parking system will read your permit (even if stored in the glove box), indicate it is invalid, and prevent you from pulling a visitor ticket.

How do I get a parking pass for one day?
