Traffic and parking advisory: Limited road access and parking due to March 31 concert

March 29, 2011Motorists traveling by Duke’s Central Campus on Thursday should allow extra travel time due to a concert being held at Erwin Park, which sits between Oregon and Case streets, south of highway 147.

Traffic and parking is being adjusted for an 8 p.m. March 31 performance by rapper Lupe Fiasco.

In addition to an expected increase in traffic around the time of the concert, Hull Avenue will be blocked off at noon and Oregon Street and Alexander Avenue will be blocked and closed to traffic at 5 p.m. Both locations will be staffed by the Duke University Police Department or Staff One parking attendants and will be made available to motorists with a valid handicapped parking permit.

Regular parking rules will be in effect for the concert, meaning vehicles parking on Central Campus must have a valid Central Campus parking permit. Public parking will be available in the H Lot off Erwin Road beginning at 7 p.m. for $10 cash per vehicle. A handicap-accessible drop-off spot and parking will be available on Case Street as well as on a gravel lot on Oregon Street near Pace Street. Parking in these lots will also cost $10 cash per vehicle.

All cars parked in public parking lots must be removed by 7 a.m. April 1 or they will be ticketed and towed.

Duke Police and Staff One parking attendants will be stationed to assist traffic at several locations:
Duke Vans will run normal service on the day of the concert, but won’t provide service around Alexander Avenue and Oregon Street since those areas are closed to traffic. Full van service will resume to those areas after the concert and when roads open. Attendees can use Duke buses, which will maintain regular bus service on Thursday, with the Robertson Scholars Express Bus running until its normal end time at 11 p.m.
