Share opinions on commuting and regional transportation, win prizes

February 23, 2011

Duke students, faculty and staff can share how they commute and whether they would try alternative transit options by taking GoTriangle’s Employee Commuter Survey.

Along with GoTriangle and Triangle Transit, Duke is encouraging members of the community to take GoTriangle’s biannual commuting survey with the aim of providing information that can help expand travel choices, enhance safety and improve regional air quality. The 17-question survey is online, takes about five minutes to complete – and participants can win a $25 Target gift card for their opinions.

Results of the survey will indicate where there are alternative transportation opportunities to support Duke employees. The survey is also available in paper form in the Duke Parking and Transportation Services offices, 2010 Campus Drive, or the Duke Services Center. The services center is adjacent to the Medical Center Bookstore in room 4290 on the lower level of Duke South next to the Blue Elevator.

Students, faculty and staff have until March 18 to complete the survey. Target gift card winners will be randomly selected from survey entrants after the deadline.

Stephanie Loyka, Durham County’s employer outreach coordinator for GoTriangle, said the survey will help determine how area businesses, universities and institutions can work with Triangle Transit to reduce the number of single occupancy vehicles on the road – which can lead to a less traffic congestion and fewer carbon emissions.

“The survey is a valuable tool for employers to understand employee commuting habits,” she said. “Input is very valuable to the success of the survey, and a critical tool for identifying and implementing beneficial commuter benefits at Duke and beyond.”
