Traffic advisory: Weekend events and NCAA National Championship

April 01, 2010Motorists on Duke’s West Campus should allow for extra travel time to get to and around campus on Saturday, April 3 due to several events hosted at the Bryan Center, Duke Chapel and Cameron Indoor Stadium.

On Saturday, Duke Police may restrict travel for some areas of campus, depending on traffic congestion, and extra vehicles will help service Duke bus routes.

Beginning at 7:30 p.m., Duke undergraduate, graduate and professional students will be admitted into Cameron Indoor Stadium to watch the Duke-West Virginia NCAA Final Four game on the stadium’s video scoreboard. The game is scheduled to tip off around 8:45 p.m.

Students must show a DukeCard to gain entrance into the stadium.

Beginning at 7 p.m. Saturday, Duke Africa will host its annual Culture Showcase in the Bryan Center and at 8 p.m., Duke Chapel will host Easter services.

If the Duke men’s basketball team plays in the NCAA National Championship Monday night, Duke undergraduate, graduate and professional students will again be admitted into Cameron Indoor Stadium to watch the game, which is scheduled to start after 9 p.m.

If the championship game features Duke, all entrances to West Campus will be closed around 9 p.m. Only Duke students and their spouses/partners, employees and alumni with appropriate identification will be allowed on campus. News media with Duke-issued press badges will also be permitted on campus.

If Duke participates in the NCAA National Championship game, there will be a celebration around 2 p.m. Tuesday on campus to welcome the team home, whether they win or lose. The event will take place in Cameron and would be open to the public. Parking on campus will be limited and motorists should plan for possible delays. Duke bus routes may be altered due to any motorcades.
