Zipcar moving quickly to repair Toyota vehicles on campus

February 15, 2010Toyota vehicles affected by the recall are either fixed or being repaired by Zipcar as part of Toyota’s worldwide recall.

Beth Campbell, transportation administrator for Duke Parking and Transportation Services, said Zipcar sent an e-mail to all members last week notifying them that the affected Toyotas were being pulled off the road and fixed.

Zipcar is in charge of making sure all the cars are taken care of and all costs are covered by the Massachusetts car-sharing company, she said.

Three Matix models under a safety recall are currently fixed and available, with one each at the West Campus Quad, in the surface lot near the Bryan Center parking garage and on East Campus on Campus Drive.

The Prius models are out of service and awaiting brake repair. Of the two models at Duke, one is at a local dealership and the other will soon be picked up by a local contractor hired by Zipcar to be repaired.

Campbell said that Duke has ordered a Honda Civic to replace one Prius on campus and has requested a hybrid model.
