What's Different Over Winter Break?

Parking and Transportation Services operations are adjusted over the winter break. 

Parking will be available at no charge in all patient and visitor areas of Duke Medical Center garages on Thursday through Sunday, December 24 through December 27 and Thursday through Sunday, December 31 through January 3, 2010.  Access will be comparable to usual weekend parking. Medical Center employee van services will remain in service throughout the holidays.  However, as the parking decks will be available to all permit owners on these Thursdays and Fridays, pickups will not be available at off-site parking areas including LaSalle overflow lot, Hillsborough Road lot, and Greystone Church.

 Transit Services

Bus Service

Buses will not operate December 24, 25, 31 and January 1.
All "H" routes will operate normally except December 24, 25 and 31, 2009 and January 1, 2010.
PR-1 will operate normally except December 24, 25 and 31, 2009 and January 1, 2010.
LaSalle Loop will operate normally except December 24, 25 and 31, 2009 and January 1, 2010.
C-2 (East/Central/West Campuses) will operate on a reduced schedule between December 14, 2009 and January 12, 2010.
C-1 and C-4 will not operate between Monday, December 14, 2009 and Friday, January 8, 2010.  Service resumes Saturday, January 9, 2010. 
Robertson Express bus will operate reduced (hourly) service between Monday, December 7, 2009 and Friday, December 18, 2009.  No service December 19, 2009 through January 10, 2010.  Reduced service resumes Monday, January 11.  Full service resumes Wednesday, January 13, 2010.
C-3, C-5, C-6 and Smith-West routes will not operate between Monday, December 14, 2009 and Tuesday, January 12, 2010.  Service resumes Wednesday, January 13, 2010.

SafeRides and Van Services

SafeRides will operate through midnight, Wednesday, December 23, 2009.  Regular service will resume at 5:00 p.m. Monday, January 4, 2010.

Van Services will provide regular service throughout the holidays.

 University Permit Parking

Blue Zone Access for Undergraduate Residential Students

Residential undergraduate students may park their cars in the Blue Zone from Tuesday, December 8, 2009 until Wednesday, January 13, 2010.

Gated Lot Access

Duke permit holders have access to most gated lots from Thursday, December 24, 2009 through Friday, January 1, 2010. 

Duke University Road Lots

The Duke University Road lots will close at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, December 11 and will re-open on Monday, January 4, 2010.

Enforcement

Vehicles displaying a valid Duke permit may park in most unreserved zoned spaces from Thursday, December 24, 2009 through Friday, January 1, 2010.  Vehicles without a valid Duke permit may park in any unreserved space except within a gated lot or garage.  Enforcement of handicapped spaces, fire lanes and reserved spaces will be in effect throughout the winter break. 

Main Quadrangle

During this period the Chapel Quadrangle will be staffed only during events, for Christmas Eve and Sunday Worship Services.

 Medical Center Patient and Visitor Parking

Patient and visitor parking will be free at all facilities from Thursday, December 24 through Sunday, December 27 and Thursday, December 31 through Friday, January 1, 2010.

Parking Garage I

Monday, December 28 through Wednesday, December 30, 2009 patient and visitor parking will operate on an abbreviated schedule between 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Parking Garage II

Monday, December 28 through Wednesday, December 30, 2009 patient and visitor parking will operate on an abbreviated schedule between 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Saturday, January 2 through Sunday, January 3, 2010 the garage will operate between 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Parking Garage III

Monday, December 28 through Wednesday, December 30, 2009 patient and visitor parking will operate on a normal schedule between 11:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Eye Center Parking

Monday, December 28 through Wednesday, December 30, 2009 patient and visitor parking will operate on an abbreviated schedule between 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

This lot is reserved for patients only at all times.  Ticket and towing will be enforced over the holidays.

Employee holiday gate access operates between December 24, 2009 at 5:00 p.m. through January 1, 2010


Fees will be charged during special events
Monday, December 14 through Friday, December 18, 2009 visitor parking will operate between 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Visitor parking will be free Saturday, December 19, 2009 through Sunday, December 20, 2009 except for special events.
Monday, December 21 through Wednesday, December 23, 2009 visitor parking will operate on an abbreviated schedule between 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Visitor parking will be free Thursday, December 24, 2009 through Sunday, December 27, 2009 except for special events.
Monday, December 28 through Wednesday, December 30, 2009 visitor parking will operate on an abbreviated schedule between 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Visitor parking will be free Thursday, December 31, 2009 through Sunday, January 3, 2010 except for special events.
Monday, January 4 through Friday, January 8, 2010 visitor parking will operate between 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Visitor parking will be free Saturday, January 9 through Sunday, January 10, 2010 except for special events.
Normal schedule resumes on Monday, January 11, 2010.

 Administrative and Service Offices

Parking Office Parking Services will be closed Thursday, December 24, 2009 through Friday, January 1, 2010.
Fleet Maintenance The fleet maintenance shop will be closed Thursday, December 24, 2009 through Monday, December 28, 2009 and Thursday, December 31, 2009 through January 1, 2010.
