Traffic Advisory - Students Return August 18-23
Parking and traffic challenges will occur as students return to Duke and move into their dormitories on East and West Campuses.
Move-in for first-year students will take place Tuesday, August 18, bringing over 1,700 students and their parents to East Campus. As a result, all parking areas on East Campus must be clear of vehicles from 7:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., and all entrances to East Campus will be closed early that morning.
Permit holders may park on the periphery of East Campus, on side streets or in the Asbury Methodist Church parking lot. The church requests that the first two rows of their lot be kept clear for pre-school student transportation. The two-hour time limit imposed on many of the neighboring streets will not be enforced on Tuesday.
On Thursday and Friday, August 20 and 21, the Edens “D” parking lot (behind Edens Quadrangle off Duke University Road) will be designated as an unloading zone for West Campus student move-in. In addition, small portions of the Card Gym and Beta parking lots will be used for unloading on Thursday and Friday. Staff will be positioned at the entrance of lots around West Campus dormitories to direct permit holders to parking spaces and students to unloading areas. On Saturday and Sunday, August 22 and 23, all spaces in Card Gym, Beta, Edens “B” and “C” lots will be available for students moving in.
The Blue Zone will be open from Thursday through Sunday for move-in activities. Please enter the Blue Zone through the iron gates off Duke University Road. Move-in traffic will be heavy around Duke University Road and the traffic circle on Towerview Road throughout the weekend.
Overnight parking will not be permitted on the Main Quadrangle, or in any firelanes or unloading areas adjacent to dormitories. Violations may result in towing at the owner's expense.
