Duke Vans

Duke Vans provides free, on-demand van transportation from dusk to dawn (5:00pm - 6:45am) for Duke University students and employees when/where Duke Transit is not in service.

Rides are provided on demand to and from most Duke campus facilities open for use at the time of the ride request. Once a request has been made you will receive a notification via phone call or text. The notification will inform the requestor of the nearest pick up point for the requested location.

Duke Vans is a courtesy service intended to transport passengers between campus and residential destinations or back to passenger vehicles parked in remote lots. Duke Vans do not transport passengers to parties, social or retail venues such as bars, restaurants, laundromats, or other commercial destinations.  A valid Duke identification card is required for all passengers.  Drivers will conduct checks at pickup.  Van Services guidelines are available here.

TO SCHEDULE A RIDE, visit http://duke.ridecell.com to place a web request.  If you do not have access to the site, you can also schedule a ride by calling 919-684-2020.

Pick Up transportation is provided to riders from on-campus locations only.

Drop Off transportation is provided to on-campus locations as well as off-campus residences within the defined boundary area. Drop offs at commercial locations or fire lanes are not permitted.

Please Note that due to the occasional high volume of calls received, there may be a delay in pick-up response time.

Medical Center Evening Van Ride Procedures
Duke Vans provide supplemental service to Duke Transit routes and serve permitted lots after bus service ends. Vans do not duplicate the bus route while buses are in service. Permit holders in Medical Center locations who need transportation to Duke parking lots after bus service hours should request service from actual pickup locations below. When calling, provide the exact pickup and drop-off locations and number of passengers, and be ready at the pickup location.

Van Services for the Medical Center operates from 5:00pm - 6:45am daily, when/where Duke Transit is not in service.

New!  Van service from East Campus to Duke Medicine Pavilion is available Monday through Friday at 5:45am, 6:00am, 6:15am, 6:30am and 6:40am.  The van uses bus stop #12002 in front of Gilbert Addoms dormitory.  Duke Transit routes C2, H2, and H5 return to the East Campus area from the vicinity of several Health System buildings.
